CHICO — For the third time this year, the Chico High School girls basketball team will face off against Foothill this time with a Northern Section Division 3 Championship playoff berth on the line.
The Panthers were likely able to turn their attention toward their next opponent early on in Thursday night’s 55-14 win over the visiting Enterprise.
Chico was led by junior Taylee Clements, who scored the Panthers’ first six points of the game helping push them to a 6-2 lead over the Hornets.
Unfortunately for the visiting Hornets, those two points would be the only ones they would get for the rest of the half and Chico would enter the intermission with a 36-2 advantage.
Much of the second half was played with a running clock.
Clements scored 13 of her game-high 17 points in the first half and was the only player from either team to score in double figures. Junior Rayen Letner and sophomore Josie Carlos each scored eight points in the win.
The two schools met at Chico High school on Jan. 17 with the Cougars walking away with a 63-51 victory. The Panthers lost that game despite having three players in double figures, Carlos and Campbell Vieg with 13 and Rebecca Digmon scoring 12.
On February 7, the two schools met in Redding and the Panthers left town with a 48-47 win. In that victory, Carlos and Clements each scored 11 points while Vieg pitched in with 10 points and tied with Digmon with six rebounds.
The Panthers will next take on Foothill and have split the regular season action with the Cougars. That game is currently slated to tip off Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Chico High School.
The game could be moved to Wednesday to pair with the boys if the Foothill boys win.
